Some venues are beautiful. Others tell a story. This styled shoot explores traditional wedding vs intimate elopement inspiration through two completely different wedding experiences at Steeple Event Center.

When I learned that Steeple Event Center was opening in New Richland, Minnesota, I immediately felt a connection to the space. Growing up just ten minutes away, this church was a familiar part of my childhood and a landmark woven into the community I called home.

Years later, seeing the church lovingly restored by Angel and her husband into a wedding and event venue felt incredibly special. What was once a place filled with history had been given new life, a space where couples could gather, celebrate, and begin their own stories.

The moment I stepped inside, inspiration came quickly. The striking black-and-white architecture, soaring ceilings, and original stained-glass windows created a backdrop that felt elegant, timeless, and unlike anything else in Southern Minnesota.

As we began planning this styled shoot, one idea continued to surface:

Some couples envision a traditional wedding day surrounded by family and friends, complete with a beautifully designed ceremony, a stunning reception space, and every meaningful detail in between. Rather than choosing one vision, we decided to showcase both.

Through two unique couples, two distinct wedding experiences, and one breathtaking venue, our goal was to inspire Minnesota wedding couples planning everything from a traditional wedding celebration to an intimate church elopement. No matter the guest count, we wanted to show that your wedding day can be elegant, intentional, and deeply personal.

Because at the heart of it all, the most beautiful weddings are the ones that feel authentically you.

A Restored Historic Church Turned Minnesota Wedding Venue

Nestled in the small town of New Richland, Minnesota, Steeple Event Center is proof that beautiful wedding venues don’t have to be found in big cities.

The restored church seamlessly blends historic charm with modern design. Original stained-glass windows fill the space with warmth and character, while the clean black-and-white palette creates a sophisticated backdrop that feels both timeless and contemporary.

One of the things I loved most about the venue is its versatility. The chapel offers a stunning ceremony space, while the reception area feels bright, open, and welcoming. Whether you’re planning a large wedding celebration or an intimate gathering with only your closest loved ones, the venue allows couples to create a day that feels entirely their own.

For this styled shoot, we wanted to showcase exactly that.

The Traditional Wedding Vision: Timeless, Elegant, and Elevated

For couples dreaming of a classic wedding day experience, our first design focused on timeless romance and elevated elegance.

The bride wore a stunning ballgown from The Silhouette of Easton, featuring a deep sweetheart neckline, delicate ruching, and a flowing skirt that moved beautifully throughout the venue. The silhouette felt effortlessly romantic while still maintaining the sophistication many couples envision for a traditional wedding day.

The design palette remained intentionally simple, allowing the architecture and florals to take center stage. Lush white blooms paired with soft greenery created an atmosphere that felt luxurious without feeling overwhelming.

From the ceremony space to the sweetheart table and dessert display, florals by Cedar Rae Florals were woven throughout every detail of the design. Candles added warmth and softness, while thoughtful styling transformed each area into its own moment of inspiration.

One of my favorite elements was seeing how the venue’s stained-glass windows framed the couple’s portraits. The combination of historic architecture, soft natural light, and timeless styling created images that felt both editorial and deeply romantic.

This design by Ackin Events was created for couples who love tradition while still wanting their wedding day to feel elevated and intentional. It celebrates gathering with family and friends, creating beautiful memories, and surrounding yourself with meaningful details that reflect your story.

The Intimate Elopement Vision: Romantic, Intentional, and Connection-Focused

While the first design celebrated a traditional wedding experience, the second focused on something quieter.

Something simpler.

Something deeply intentional.

Our elopement-inspired design was created for couples who want the beauty and elegance of a wedding day without the pressure of a large celebration.

The bride wore a fitted gown featuring a structured bodice, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a silhouette that felt effortlessly sophisticated. The dress complemented the intimate nature of the design while still feeling elevated and bridal.

Throughout the chapel, candles cascaded around the ceremony space, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. Combined with lush white florals and the stunning stained-glass windows, the result felt intimate, organic, and timeless.

The focus wasn’t on a reception.

It wasn’t on guest counts.

It wasn’t on traditions.

It was on connection.

The portraits from this portion of the shoot beautifully showcased that feeling. Whether standing beneath the stained glass inside the chapel or embracing outside the historic church, every image centered around the relationship itself.

For couples considering an intimate wedding or Minnesota elopement, this design demonstrates that choosing a smaller celebration doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty. In many ways, it creates even more room for meaningful moments, intentional details, and a wedding day that feels entirely your own.

The Florals That Brought Everything Together

If there was one element that tied both wedding visions together, it was the incredible floral design.

Created by Cedar Rae Florals, the arrangements were lush, romantic, and full of movement. White roses, delicate blooms, and layered greenery softened every corner of the venue while maintaining an elevated and refined aesthetic.

One of my favorite details from the entire shoot was the cake meadow that surrounded the simple cake design by Lacey’s Catering.

Surrounding the cake with abundant florals created a design moment that felt unique, romantic, and beautifully organic. It transformed a simple dessert display into a true focal point and offered inspiration for couples looking for creative ways to elevate their wedding decor.

What I loved most was the versatility of the florals. The same design style worked beautifully for both the traditional wedding and the intimate elopement, proving that thoughtful details can adapt to any wedding experience.
