An Ahavah Cottage Wedding blends natural beauty, intentional details, and unforgettable moments. From the moment I arrived, Jessica and Clayton’s summer wedding in Elysian, Minnesota transported me into another world.

From the moment I arrived at Ahavah Cottage, I felt like I had been transported into an enchanted forest. The towering trees, lush greenery, romantic florals, warm candlelight, and natural wood details created a setting that felt like something straight out of a storybook. Jessica described the feeling of the day as Taylor Swift’s Folklore coming to life, and honestly, she couldn’t have described it better.

But while the beautiful surroundings made this Ahavah Cottage wedding venue feel magical, the heart of the day was always Jessica and Clayton—their love, their laughter, and the people who surrounded them.

Jessica & Clayton’s Love Story

An Ahavah Cottage wedding is more than just a beautiful location—it is the beginning of a new chapter for couples who want their wedding day to feel personal and meaningful. Looking back, Jessica and Clayton realized their story began long before they ever met.

The two first connected on Hinge, and their first date was spent at a brewery listening to live music. From there, their relationship grew naturally, built on shared interests, laughter, and the kind of connection that makes you feel like you have known someone forever.

One of my favorite things Jessica and Clayton shared was how much the idea of “Invisible String Theory” represents their relationship. Looking back, they realized just how many times their paths had crossed before they officially met. They had mutual friends, attended the same college, and had been in the same places at the same time throughout their lives—but somehow, the timing was never quite right until it was.

And then, when the time finally came, everything fell into place.

Clayton proposed during a private walk by the lake with their dog, Millie. In many ways, that quiet moment reflected their relationship perfectly.

An Enchanted Forest Inspired Design

Jessica and Clayton’s wedding was inspired by everything they love about Minnesota summers: the outdoors, time spent near the lake, gathering with family, and creating memories in beautiful natural spaces.

Because Jessica’s family spends summers at Madison Lake, choosing a Minnesota wedding venue surrounded by nature felt incredibly fitting. Ahavah Cottage offered the perfect atmosphere for the couple’s vision: romantic, intimate, and completely connected to the outdoors.

The entire design reflected an earthy, timeless, and elegant color palette. Deep emerald greens, natural textures, soft florals, and candlelight came together to create a romantic woodland feel that complemented the surrounding landscape.

The details throughout the day felt incredibly intentional.

From the raw tree stumps incorporated into the décor to the greenery woven throughout the reception space, every element added to the feeling that guests had stepped into a hidden forest celebration.

Their Morning

The morning of their wedding brought excitement, anticipation, and meaningful moments with the people Jessica loves most.

One of my favorite parts of wedding days is getting to witness those quiet moments before everything begins.The deep breaths. The laughter. The happy tears. The friendships that have carried couples through different seasons of life.

Jessica’s bridal look was absolutely breathtaking.

She wore the Truvelle Cassie gown from Rosalie in Ankeny, Iowa. I can honestly say I have never photographed a dress quite like it. The classic strapless silhouette was elevated by the intricate embroidery, textured jacquard fabric, warm ivory tone, and beautiful lace-up back. The gown felt timeless while still capturing everything that made Jessica unique.

Her bridesmaids wore different shades of emerald green from Birdy Grey. They blended beautifully with the natural surroundings of Ahavah Cottage. Paired with the classic black tuxedos worn by the men, the entire wedding party looked elegant, sophisticated, and perfectly suited for this romantic forest-inspired celebration.

Saying “I Do” Among the Trees

As guests arrived, the Ahavah Cottage ceremony space immediately reflected Jessica and Clayton’s love for nature. Because they wanted their day to feel peaceful and intentional, the wooded setting felt like the perfect choice.

Surrounded by trees, greenery, and beautiful floral details, Jessica and Clayton exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends. The setting felt intimate and personal, allowing everyone to focus on what truly mattered—the commitment they were making to each other.

Watching these two together throughout the ceremony was such a reminder that the best wedding moments are often the simplest ones. The way they looked at each other, the smiles they shared, and the emotions surrounding them told the entire story.

Their love has such an effortless quality. From their engagement session to their wedding day, there was always an ease between them—a feeling that they were exactly where they were meant to be.

Their reception continued the enchanted forest feeling from the ceremony with thoughtful details, warm lighting, and a celebration filled with the people who mean the most to Jessica and Clayton.

One of my favorite details from the evening was Jessica and Clayton’s incredible wedding cake display.

Instead of a traditional cake table, they created an entire cake forest. Tree stumps, greenery, and candlelight surrounded the cake, creating a display that felt whimsical, romantic, and completely unique to their wedding day.

It was one of those details that perfectly represented the couple’s vision—beautiful, natural, and full of personality.

But as stunning as every detail was, the moments between people were what truly made the evening special.

Jessica and Clayton wanted their day to include fun, family, and connection, and that showed in every part of the celebration. From conversations with loved ones to laughter during the reception, the entire evening felt relaxed and full of joy.

A Father Daughter Dance Full of Surprise

One of my favorite moments from this day was Jessica’s father-daughter dance.

It began as a traditional and sentimental moment between a father and daughter. You could feel the emotion in the room as they shared that special dance together.

Then suddenly, the music changed.

The heartfelt dance turned into a fully choreographed mashup of fun songs, and Jessica and her dad completely surprised everyone with their performance. The room filled with laughter, cheers, and so much joy.

It was the perfect reflection of their relationship—loving, playful, and full of personality.

Those are the moments I love capturing most. The moments that cannot be recreated or staged. The moments that tell the real story of the people standing in front of my camera.

As the evening light began to soften, Jessica and Clayton stepped away from the celebration for their sunset portraits.

These are always some of my favorite moments of a wedding day because everything finally slows down.

The timeline is complete, the nerves are gone, and the couple gets a few quiet moments to simply be together as husband and wife.

Walking through the trees at Ahavah Cottage, surrounded by the same natural beauty that shaped their entire day, felt incredibly fitting. Their portraits captured everything their wedding represented: connection, adventure, joy, and a love that feels completely at home in the outdoors.
