Madysen and Jacob | Joyful Wedding in Detroit Lakes, MN

A Wedding That Felt Like Home

Some weddings just feel like home, and Madysen and Jacob’s wedding day in Detroit Lakes, MN was exactly that. Not only because I know them personally (Jacob is my husband’s cousin!), but because everything about their day was rooted in love, family history, and deep connection. It was relaxed, joyful, and so true to them.

From the moment I arrived, there was this calm energy that filled the air. What was forecasted to be a rainy day ended up staying beautifully dry until their reception, just enough sunshine to soak in all the special moments they had planned.

Getting Ready: Calm, Joyful, and Full of Love

Madysen looked absolutely stunning in her lace gown with delicate cap sleeves. It was elegant and timeless, just like her. Her bridesmaids wore dusty blue dresses from Birdy Grey—all in different styles that perfectly matched their personalities. The color choice was especially meaningful, chosen to honor their baby boy. Jacob and his guys looked sharp in classic grey suits from JLongs.

A Piece of Family History in Upsala

But this wasn’t just any church. This was the church built by Madysen’s great-grandparents. A historical landmark now, but even more than that, a place where their family legacy lives. I still get chills thinking about how special it was for Madysen and Jacob to say their vows inside those very walls.

An Emotional Ceremony with a Beautiful Surprise

Their ceremony was heartfelt and personal. After a sweet unity tradition of locking locks together to represent their unbreakable bond, came one of the most touching moments of the day. Madysen and Jacob had a surprise planned for everyone: a baptism for their baby boy. No one knew except the couple, and the emotion that filled the room was indescribable. It was such a powerful and tender way to unite their family.

From the Church to the Lakeside: Time to Celebrate

After the ceremony, we made our way to their reception at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. Although clouds started rolling in, the atmosphere stayed warm, fun, and relaxed. It felt like one big family celebration, exactly how Madysen and Jacob had envisioned their wedding.

Guests laughed, shared stories, and soaked in the joy of the day. We snuck out for a few quick portraits before the rain began, and the way Jacob looked at Madysen in those quiet golden moments reminded me just how deep their love runs.

High School Sweethearts with a Timeless Love

Madysen and Jacob have been together since high school, so long, they can’t even remember their first date. Their love has weathered every season of life, and standing beside them on this day was a reminder that true love doesn’t just last, it grows.

Thank You, Madysen & Jacob

To Madysen and Jacob, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your day. It meant the world to me to capture these memories for you, especially knowing how much love and family history surrounded your celebration. Your day was one of beauty, sentiment, and pure joy. Wishing you nothing but love and laughter in this next chapter as husband and wife.

And of course… congratulations again!!
